Metin 1

When a small museum began digitising its object catalogue, the team expected the main task to be copying descriptions into a searchable database. They soon found that some labels contained claims whose sources could no longer be traced. An assistant suggested filling the gaps with the most likely explanation so that every entry would look complete. The curator objected. A plausible explanation, she argued, should not appear to have the same status as a documented fact. The team kept the original wording, identified the uncertain parts, and added new evidence in a separate field when it became available. This made some entries less tidy than the assistant had hoped. It also allowed later researchers to see which statements came from the original catalogue and which had been added during the project. The museum did not treat the resulting database as a final account of every object. Instead, it presented the catalogue as a record that could be revised without concealing how its descriptions had developed.

Soru 1

What concern led the curator to reject the assistant's suggestion?

  1. A Visitors might find the database easier to search than the paper catalogue.
  2. B Researchers might notice that the original descriptions used old terminology.
  3. C Staff might spend less time copying entries into the new database.
  4. D Readers might mistake a likely explanation for a documented fact.
  5. E The museum might retain descriptions that were already supported by evidence.

  4. D To replace the original wording whenever a more attractive account appeared.
  5. E To distinguish later additions from the original catalogue statements.

Metin, belirsizliği görünür tutmayı düzgün ve eksiksiz görünen fakat bilgi sınırlarını gizleyen kayda tercih eder. Bu, kataloğun son söz olarak sunulmamasıyla da desteklenir.

Metin 2

A software team asked experienced staff to review a new instruction manual. The reviewers found the explanations clear and suggested only minor changes. Before publication, however, the team also watched several first-time users attempt the tasks without assistance. These users repeatedly stopped at a step that the experienced reviewers had passed over. The manual told them to restore a previous setting but did not explain where that setting could be found. The reviewers had supplied this missing information from memory without noticing that they were doing so. The team added the necessary direction and tested the revised section with different first-time users. It did not assume that the revision solved every problem in the manual. Rather, the episode showed why a document that makes sense to someone who knows the system may still leave a newcomer unable to act. Reviewing the wording and observing its use had revealed different kinds of information.

Soru 5

Why had the experienced reviewers overlooked the missing direction?

  1. A They had been instructed to check spelling while ignoring all practical procedures.
  2. B They had unconsciously used their own knowledge to fill in what the text omitted.
  3. C They had reviewed a completely different version of the manual from the new users.
  4. D They had deliberately removed the location of the setting to shorten the manual.
  5. E They had never used the software and therefore could not recognise the task.

  1. A A requirement that every task be explained entirely through pictures instead of words.
  2. B A disagreement about whether the software should be offered to experienced employees.
  3. C A gap between understanding the written wording and being able to complete the task.
  4. D A reason to remove all references to settings from future versions of the manual.
  5. E A finding that assistance always makes instruction manuals impossible to evaluate.

Doğru cevap: C

Yeni kullanıcıların bir adımda durması, deneyimlilere anlaşılır görünen metnin görev için gerekli bilgiyi eksik bırakabildiğini gösterir. Görsel zorunluluğu gibi genel kural çıkarılmaz.

Soru 7

Why were different first-time users involved after the revision?

  1. A Their familiarity with the original missing direction would make all later results comparable.
  2. B Their greater knowledge of the system would remove the need to observe any actual use.
  3. C Their participation would prove that the revised manual contained no remaining difficulties.
  4. D Their attempt could show whether the added direction helped people without prior task experience.
  5. E Their task was to decide which experienced reviewer should have noticed the omission.

Metin 3

A town library extended its opening hours for a short trial. The announcement appeared on the library website and on a notice inside the building. During the trial, evening attendance was lower than the committee had expected. Some members wanted to conclude that residents had little interest in later opening. Others pointed out that the publicity had mainly reached people who already used the library. Residents who could not visit during the usual hours might never have seen the notice, and the website did not necessarily reach them either. The committee therefore kept the attendance figures but postponed its broader conclusion. Before deciding whether to continue the service, it planned to ask non-users how they learned about local activities and whether they had known about the trial. This would not guarantee higher attendance. It would, however, help the committee separate a lack of demand from a failure to make the opportunity known.

Soru 9

Why did some committee members question the initial interpretation of attendance?

  1. A The attendance figures had been calculated for a different library in the same town.
  2. B The website had announced that evening visitors would need to pay an additional fee.
  3. C The announcement may not have reached residents who were unable to use the normal hours.
  4. D The trial had attracted more visitors than the building could safely accommodate.
  5. E The usual opening hours had been cancelled for the entire duration of the trial.

Doğru cevap: C

Duyuru mevcut kullanıcıların gördüğü kanallardadır. Normal saatlerde gelemeyenlerin haberdar olmayışı, düşük katılımın talep yokluğu olarak yorumlanmasını sınırlar.

Soru 10

What would the proposed questions to non-users help the committee investigate?

  1. A Whether every resident preferred an online service to visiting the building.
  2. B Whether the library could guarantee attendance before offering a new service.
  3. C Whether existing visitors should be prevented from using the evening hours.
  4. D Whether limited awareness could partly explain the low evening attendance.
  5. E Whether attendance records should be discarded whenever a trial is unsuccessful.

Doğru cevap: D

Soru 11

  1. A The distinction between borrowing a book and returning it after the due date.
  2. B The distinction between permanent library employees and temporary volunteers.
  3. C The distinction between the cost of a website and the cost of printing books.
  4. D The distinction between collecting attendance data and counting available chairs.
  5. E The distinction between not wanting an opportunity and not knowing it exists.

Soru 12

How did the committee treat the attendance figures?

  1. A It retained them while seeking more information before drawing a wider conclusion.
  2. B It replaced them with estimates from residents who had not visited the library.

  4. D It accepted them as sufficient proof that later opening could never be useful.
  5. E It withheld them until the trial produced the increase members had predicted.
